Official Unforgiven Preview: Trish vs. Lita
Since their first encounter back in 2000, Trish Stratus and Lita have had a love-hate relationship. They’ve been friends and they’ve been enemies, but there has been an undeniable (and at times very heated) rivalry between the two Divas for nearly seven years.
On Sept. 17, Unforgiven will mark the final chapter of the story; Trish is retiring following Unforgiven, and in her hometown of Toronto, she will meet Lita for the Women’s Championship in her final match.
Lita and Trish have warred over the Women’s Championship before; in December 2004, Lita defeated Trish on RAW to win her second of three Women’s Championships. One month later at New Year’s Revolution 2005, Trish won her sixth (and so far, last) Women’s Championship in the rematch when Lita tore her ACL during the bout.
That was their last one-on-one encounter, and in fact, Trish and Lita had very little contact with one another after Lita aligned herself with Edge later that summer…that is, until Lita dropped a bombshell on WWE.com.
Prior to RAW on August 21, Lita gave WWE.com the breaking news that Trish was set to retire following Unforgiven. Lita had overheard a conversation Trish was having with her parents about it, and decided to help Trish break the news. Carlito confronted Trish about this later in the night, and the six-time Women’s Champion was upset but not surprised that Lita had done this to her.
The following week, Trish tried to explain the decision to her fans, but Lita once again interrupted. Trish was happy to see her, however, calling her out for one final battle. Lita accepted, making the match for Unforgiven; but later in the night, Lita pinned Trish in a Six-Person Intergender Tag Team Match after Randy Orton gave Trish an RKO.
Trish Stratus is a six-time Women’s Champion. Can she make it lucky number seven on her final night as a WWE Superstar, or will Lita send the hometown hero out on the losing end?
