Toronto Sun: Organizers say they're Stratus-fied
Is Canada's Walk Of Fame ready for the wrestling rabble?
Walk Of Fame organizers understood when they hired WWE superstar Trish Stratus to host the gala ceremony on June 3 that she likely would bring in a whole new audience.
Part of that audience showed up yesterday at a media conference in downtown Toronto to reveal the eight 2006 inductees.
Stratus took questions from the crowd for a while. For every query about the Walk Of Fame, there were a half-dozen about wrestling.
At one point Stratus took a moment to speak directly to the Walk Of Fame's more traditional audience.
"Some of you may know me from the picture your son has downloaded from the internet," Stratus said.
That's funny stuff.
Walk Of Fame CEO and president Peter Soumalias said he's fine with the potential clash of cultures.
"They're Canadians, too," Soumalias said of the mat-mayhem enthusiasts.
"Through this experience, if they can learn about the Crazy Canucks ski team, then maybe the wrestling fans can teach our black-tie audience about Canada's incredible contribution to that industry.
"We want to reach out to young Canadians and have stories told to them that are inspirational."
The wrestling faithful certainly inspires Stratus. After all, her fans follow her just about everywhere she goes.
"If you heard the crowd (yesterday), I definitely feed off their energy," Stratus said.
"I use their energy to fuel me."
Consider the tank full.
