"Both Moolah and Mae were an important part of my life in WWE, especially in my first couple years in the company as they were my biggest cheerleaders. They were always encouraging me and telling me they liked how I didn't "wrestle like a girl". She was an inspiration to me and so many of the girls in the locker room. I used to tell her 'Mae, I want to be just like you when I grow up'. I'm going to miss her a lot."
Mae Young's incredible career in the ring spanned nine decades, from the early day's of women's wrestling through to the Attitude Era of WWE. Fans today will undoubtedly remember her painful spots in the ring, well north of 70 years of age.
"I admired that til the end she was still doing what she loved," Trish commented. "She loved being backstage with us, hanging out and joking around. People often wondered how she could still get in the ring and take bumps – that was passion-fuelled adrenaline, that was ignited by a love in her heart for this business."
Mae's incredible career included several championships in the National Wrestling Alliance and feature moments in WWE alongside her longtime friend, the Fabulous Moolah. Mae was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
